Introduction - What Is Model United Nations?

Part I. Introduction - What Is Model United Nations?

Model United Nations is a simulation of the United Nations, which is an intergovernmental organization consisting of 192 countries in the world. Model United Nations, also known as "Model UN" or "MUN", simulates certain bodies of the United Nations, predominantly the deliberative bodies where countries send delegates to meet and discuss international policy on a variety of issues.

Model UN teams exist at hundreds of colleges and universities worldwide, and have existed since the United Nations itself came into being after World War II. Model UN teams also exist at primary and secondary schools around the world. Teams meet at conferences to actually conduct the simulations; between conferences, teams usually prepare by researching topics and doing practice sessions, along with administrative work they need to do to ensure they can attend the conference logistically.
